Homoerotic behaviour or prehispanic gay civilization

When we talk about the Pre-Columbian Peruvian civilization, usually we think just about the Incas and their empire. But they weren't the only Pre-Columbian civilization. Many cultures developed along our territory centuries ago, especially in the northern Peru, sush as Vicus, Moche and Lambayeque.
When the Inca's Empire had conquered those lands, the local traditions survived and when the Spanish arrived some of those traditions were compiled by the Spanish
chroniclers. According to them, the sodomy was practiced for some priests whose rituals were related to the moon cycles. The evidence that those worships were associated with the religious activities is compiled in the next text writen by Cieza de León, an Spanish chronicler.

This Spanish wrote his first impressions about the local religious in the northern land of Peru on his arrival during the sixteenth century "is certainly in the oracles and worship place when the devil's answer used to understand that for getting better accuracy in the predictions, some young men since his childhood were in the temples, in order to be taken
for the damn sin of sodomy for Lords and other when the sacrifices and feasts occured. "
Also, the Spanish chronicler Fray Domingo de Santo Tomas said: "Truth is usually among the indian from the coast and indian from the highland, that the devil has introduced his evil hidden in
appearance of holiness, that is why each temple or worship place there is a man or two more, who wear women dresses and behave as women since they were children, and they speak, behave, wear as woman, and their manner and everything is to imitate women. Lords take them during the feasts and religious events for having sex as a way to get holiness. I say this because I have punished two: one of the Indians from the hightland , who was found having annal sex in a place that they call huaca, in the province of Conchucos, the city of Guanuco; the other was found in the province of Chincha, both Indians, servents of his Majesty. I decided to tell them that their behaviour was really evil, but they told me that they didn't have no guilt, because since they were children their parents destinated them to be taken for Lords in sexuality activities"
The data above are from the book "History of Ancient Peru" by Luis E. Valcarcel, volume 3, fifth edition, 1985.

Unfortunable there is not enough information about sodomy and religious practices. The only information available is given by the chroniclers and archaeological evidence.
One such evidence is focused on the discovery of pottery belonging especially to the northern cultures. These ceramics with representation of sex activities are called Huacos Eroticos, or erotic pottery. Much has been spoken about these. Some archaeologists mentioned that the representation of these ceramic had links with the fertility of the world, but in that sense does not explain why the scenes of anal sex and some linked with sodomy.

On the other hand, other archaeologists note that these ceramics show moralizing, educational and sometimes humorous scenes. The truth is that there are still many questions and few answers. about them. From this website and in our tours, we will be attentive to offer each day more scientific information regarding this issue so exciting.
