Lima has many nice areas to visit. Barranco is the bohemian heart of the city - a pleasant suburb of Lima that has kept its character on the seafront. Barranco is one of Lima's main nightspots, and there are plenty of good bars and discos in the area, which come to life at sundown. During the day, Barranco is a relaxed, tranquil place, almost like a town stopped in time, making a nice escape from downtown Lima. It is also a relaxing place to stay if you want to get away from the bustle of the city.

Barranco has been a Summer resort area from the 19th Century onwards. It is still possible to see traditional houses built by rich families, as well as nice areas such as: The Bridge of Sighs, the main plazat and the Ermita, an old church built in the XIX. On our tour we take the old tram to visit the Pedro de Osma Museum, a extraordinary collection of paintings on linen cloth, metal, wood, glass and leather.

También el cronista español fray Domingo de Santo Tomás dice: “verdad es que generalmente entre los serranos y yungas el demonio ha introducido éste vicio debajo de especie de santidad, y es que cada templo o adoratorio principal tiene un hombre o dos más, según es la importancia del ídolo, los cuales andan vestidos como mujeres desde el tiempo que eran niños, y hablan como tales, y en su manera, traje y todo lo demás remedan a las mujeres. Con éstos mozos, casi como por vía de santidad y religión, tienen los señores principales su ayuntamiento carnal y torpe los días de fiesta. Los datos anteriores son del libro “Historia del Perú Antiguo” por Luis E. Valcárcel, tomo 3, quinta edición, 1985.

No hay mucha información al respecto entre la sodomia y las prácticas religiosas de los naturales. La única información disponible es la dada por los cronistas y las evidencias arqueológicas.

Una de estas evidencias se centra en el hallazgo de cerámica perteneciente en especial a las culturas norteñas. Estas cerámicas con representaciones sexuales son llamados huacos o cerámica erótica. Mucho se ha hablado de estas.

Algunos arqueólogos mencionan que la representación de estos cerámicos tuvieron vinculación con la fertilidad del mundo, pero en ese sentido no se explica el por qué de las escenas de sexo anal y de algunas vinculadas con la sodomía.

Por otro lado otros arqueólogos mencionan que estos cerámios muestran escenas moralizadoras , educativas y en algunos casos humorísticas. Lo cierto es que aún hay muchas preguntas y pocas respuestas. SODOMIA EN LIMA COLONIAL (Español)

Este artículo ha sido escrito con con el fin de brindar una percepción de la sodomía en Lima en el último trimestre del siglo XVIII.

El 8 de abril de 1776, el doctor Don Agustín De La Encarnación fue detenido por la guardia real de Lima por haberlo encontrado a altas horas de la noche, caminando en las calles con vestimentas de mujer. Para las autoridades civiles, esta conducta merecía sansión no sólo por que trastocaba el orden "natural" de los sexos dado por Dios, sino por la presunción del delito de sodomía.

Se define como sodomita a todo hombres o mujer que practica el pecado nefando de tener sexo contranatura. La sodomía, por lo tanto, no sólo fue el más nefando pecado considerado por la Iglesia, de por sí era considerado también como un delito contra el rey, pues la figura del sodomita es aquel que no contribuye eficazmente con su esperma en el ensanchamietno de la población del reino, y, por tanto, a la base tributaria. Esto significaba por lo tanto, un verdadero desprecio a las políticas reales del buen uso del sexo, y era considerado como un hereje y un traidor al rey.

Dependiendo de la composición étnica y social, el sodomita podía tener diferentes tipos de castigo. En la jurisdicción civil era castigado con la vergüenza pública o el exilio perpetuo. Si el sodomita no era español o español naciodo en América, las sanciones podían ser muy severas, no importando para ello el fuero de juzgamiento. Es lo que justamente sucedión con los esclavos Manuel Salazar y Dionisio Mudarra. Alrededor de 1800, estos esclavos fueron encontrados teniendo sexo anal en una de las tiendas de la Plaza Mayor de Lima. El tribunal eclesiástico ordenó amputar sus penes, y luego se les trasladó a la jurisdicción civil, donde fueron condenados a la hoguera.

El tribunal de la Inquisición en Lima, fue siempre menos severo con los sodomitas que el tribunal civil, porque la Iglesia considera que la sodomía era un problema causado por una falta de educación y descuido maternal.

Por esta razón, debía corregirse con benevolencia, latigazos, penitencia, oración, y trabajos de caridad. Estas fueron las formas de castigos para ellos. Por el contrario, la jurisdicción civil en general era más severa castigando con la amputación del pene, la vergüenza pública, el exilio perpétuo o la quema viva en la hoguera

El historiador Pablo Macera menciona que las fiestas de indios y negros eran las ocaciones propicias para dar rienda suelta a practicas sodomitas pues en estas fiestas se invertía el orden establecido, asimismo menciona que estas prácticas eran extendida en todos los niveles de la sociedad Limeña, razón por la gran represión y condena.

Peru is a country known worldwide for its fabulous Pre-Columbian History, exquisite cuisine and its wonderful people. But few visitors know about the Gay side of Peru. Well, this article will give you what you should know when you are visiting my country. In other words, the gay scene. I hope with this article more people decide to explore the fun side of gay Peru.

Firstly,we must say that being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transsexual is not illegal in Peru. There is no law or local rule that punish with jail, or banning any kind of behavior associated with gays. Indeed, there are a number of legal mechanisms to defend gay against discrimination on sexual orientation in specific cases (Constitutional Procedure Code) and in some councils of Peru there are some specified rules in order to struggle against any way of discrimination included for sexual orientation.

Nevertheless, even a large percentage of the population and the Peruvian authorities have prejudices on this subject. Many of these prejudices are due to the strong Christian influence in Peru (85% and 11% are Catholic and evangelical Christians) and ignorance. This is reflected in the lack of a national law prohibiting discrimination on sexual orientation, gay marriage, lack of other social benefits. Gay also are seen as "scandalous" and little moral conduct. Despite this, it is curious to note that many openly gay and lesbian have programs in national TV with high audience and a large popular support.

Among the young Lima is becoming more "normal" to have gays and lesbians as a friends. And it's bad manners not to be "open mind" For this reason it is not surprising that "Straights" have fun at gay discos and that every year more people to join Gay Pride, which in its latest edition convened more 3 thousand people in Lima.

The gay community organized in Peru dates back to the 80s and today several successful organizations Gays, Lesbians and Transsexuals who work mostly in Lima. For that reason many gays prefer Miraflores than downtown Lima as the best place for having fun, besides for many people Miraflores provides some cachet to its visitors, but curiously many gays end their fun in Lima downtown.

On average entry to a disco in Lima Center can cost between 8 to 10 soles ($ 3) and in Miraflores between 15 and 25 soles depending on the time of admission ($ 6 and $ 9). Many of these offer a drink of courtesy. Both in Lima in Miraflores there are bars and clubs free admission. It's most common drinking beers than cocktails. A pitcher of beer costs between 10 and 15 soles, depending on location and cocktails over 10 soles each one.

Other sites for entertainment are the "darkrooms", where porno videos are projected and in a common area people have sex. LA VIDA GAY EN PERU (Español)

Perú es un país mundialmente conocido por su fabuloso pasado Pre- Colombino, exquisita cocina y su maravillosa gente. Pero pocos conocen el lado Gay de Perú. Bueno, este artículo les brindará lo que deben saber cuando visiten mi país. Es decir,la movida gay peruana y como es la vida gay de los peruanos para que más visitantes se animen a explorar el divertido lado gay de Perú.
Primero debemos decir que ser gay, lesbiana, bisexual o transexual en Perú no es ilegal. No existe ninguna ley o ordenanza locales que sancione con cárcel, pago de multas o prohíba algún tipo de comportamiento vinculado a los gays. Es más, existe una serie de mecanismos legales que defiende a la población gay de discriminación por orientacion sexual en casos específicos (Código Procesal Constitucional)y en algunas municipalidades del Perú se especifica en ordenanzas la no discriminación por orientacion sexual.
No obstante ello, aún un gran porcentaje de la población y de las autoridades peruanas tienen prejucios sobre este tema. Muchos de estos prejucios se deben a la fuerte influencia cristiana en el Perú (85 % son catolicos y 11 % cristianos evangélicos) y a la ignorancia. Esto se ve reflejado en la carencia de una ley nacional de no discriminación por orientacion sexual, el matrimonio gay, la falta de otros beneficios sociales. Asimismo los gay son vistos como "escandalosos" y de conducta poco moral. Pese a esto, es curioso notar que muchos gay y lesbianas abiertamente conocidos tienen programas en la TV nacional con altos márgenes de rating y con un gran respaldo popular.
Entre los jóvenes limeños cada vez es más "normal" conocer amigos gay o lesbianas. Y es de mal gusto no ser "open mind" Por tal motivo no es extraño que gente no gay "straights" se diviertan en discos gay y que cada año se sumen más personas al Gay Pride, el cual en su última edición convocó a más de 3 mil personas en Lima.
La comunidad gay organizada en Perú data de los 80s y hoy en día exiten varias organizaciones de Gays, Lesbianas y Transexuales quienes trabajan en su mayoría en Lima. Muchas de estas organizaciones de activistas u ONG's son ayudadas por la cooperación internacional y realizan un de activismo político y de prevención del VIH-SIDA, y en muchos casos son ayudados por el Ministerio de Salud de Perú.
En cuanto a la movida gay, Lima es la ciudad que tiene la mayor oferta de bares, clubes, saunas, cuartos oscuros, video pubs y hospedajes (para encuentros sexuales)
La área gay de Lima se puede dividir en dos: La primera esta ubicada en el Centro Histórico de Lima y en especial alrededor de la Plaza San Martin y Plaza Francia, lugares de ambiente por excelencia. Aqui se encuentran las discos y bares gay más antiguos y más populares. Son muy concurridos por ser baratos. por estar cerca a los hospedajes para encuentro sexuales y por que es más fácil ligar y tener sexo dentro de ellos. Algunas veces pareciera que en las discos y bares gays del Centro Histórico todo es posible de realizar. Otro fuerte motivo es que al estar ubicados en el Centro Histórico de la capital, la accesibilidad a otros puntos de la ciudad se vuelve más fácil, puesto quela gran mayoria de los habitantes de los cerca de 9 millones que tiene Lima,viven en la periféria, la cual se accede más rápido desde el Centro. Por otro lado, Miraflores es otro lugar gay.Ubicado al sur de la ciudad. Miraflores es un distrito residencial y turístico lleno de comercio, lujosos hoteles y restaurantes.Es el lado moderno de la ciudad. Existe un número variado de clubs y bares. La gran mayoría son un poco más costosos que los de Lima Centro, pero la seguridad y limpieza está altamente garantizada. En ellos se dan shows variados. Para muchos gays Miraflores es el mejor lugar para divertirse pues es más seguro que el Centro, y además por ser una zona turística, Miraflores brinda cierto cachet a sus visitantes, pero curiosamente muchos gay finalizan su diversión el Centro de Lima.
En promedio la entrada a una disco en Lima Centro puede costar entre 8 o 10 soles ($3) y en Miraflores entre 15 y 25 soles dependiendo de la hora de ingreso ($6 y $9). Muchos de estos ofrecen un trago de cortesía. Tanto en Lima como en Miraflores hay bares y clubs de ingreso gratuito. El consumo de cerveza es lo más comun, pero también se venden cocktels. Una jarra de cerveza cuesta entre 10 y 15 soles dependiendo del lugar y los cockteles de 10 a mas soles.
Otros lugares de entretenimiento muy concurrido son los cuartos oscuros, donde se proyectan videos pornos y en un área común se tiene sexo. Ademas de estos, son muy concurridos los saunas, donde no se va necesariamente para una sesión de cámara a vapor.
Para tener sexo muchos de los limeños utilizan Hostales. Estos son alquilados por una hora o un poco más. Muchos de estos se encuentra en Lima Centro y sus precios van desde 10 soles a mas.

SODOMY IN LIMA

This article was written in order to give perception of sodomy in Lima last quarter s. XVIII.

On 8 April 1776, doctor Don Agustin De La Encarnación was arrested by royal guards in Lima because he was walking on the streets wearing woman dresses. For the civil authorities, that behavior should be punished, not only by disrupting the natural order given by God, but because of the presumption of the crime of sodomy.

The description of sodomite referred to men and / or women who practiced the heinous sin of having annal sex. The sodomy therefore was not only the most heinous sin considered by the Church, in fact it was also an offense against the king, as the figure of the sodomites were one who did not contribute effectively to their sperm to increase the population of the kingdom, and thus the tax base. This meant thus a real contempt for the policies and was seen as a heretic and traitor to the king.

Depending on the ethnic and social status, the sodomite could have different kinds of punishment. In the civilian jurisdiction was punished with public embarrassment or exile perpetuity. If sodomites were not Spanish or American Spanish, penalties were more severe, in that no matter jurisdiction they were tried. As they happened to the slaves Manuel Salazar and Dionisio Mudarra. During our guided tour we will travel along its millenarian history and Lima's gay history.

Peru was the most important Viceroyalty in the Spanish Empire and Lima was its capital. We will see some of its architecture and the urban design of the city, there are several colonial houses adorned with Moorish-style balconies. We will take a stop in Plaza San Martin (a gay area

especially at nights) and the Plaza Mayor (Main Square), where we will appreciate different buildings sush as: Palacio de Gobierno(Government Palace), Palacio Arzobispal (the Archbishop's Palace), the Basilica Cathedral (Cathedral Basilica) and the Palacio Municipal (Council Building)

In its historic center we shall visit one of its most beautiful buildings, the Museum of the Banco Central de Reserva, where we can admire Peru's treasures: a fine selection of objects made of gold, ceramics and textiles of its different pre-columbian cultures, Then, we will enter the monumental Convento de San Francisco (Convent of Saint Francis), which displays the biggest collection of religious art in America. We can admire the Choir Room and the Monks’ Library, the Sacristy, with its collection of Zurbaran and Rivera paintings. The Big Patio of the Main Cloister, decorated with Seville tiles from the XVI century, its beautiful Moorish arches and its subterranean crypts known as The Catacombs, where you will feel the presence of Lima's colonial past

Also tour includes a panoramic view of Huaca Pucllana, a magnificent ceremonial and administrative center which was considered by the pre-Incas a holy village. The Olive Park in San Isidro and the Love Park for having a wonderful view of the Pacific Ocean. We will end the tour in Barranco, a summer resort of Lima inhabitants during the XIX century.

OMAR ARAYA is a Peruvian gay guy, who has traveled through Peru all his life and thus has an inmense knowledge of his country, its needs, problems and possibilities. He started his career at San Marcos University, studing Management of Tourism, but most of his time has spent working as a tour guide becuase he could not leave his passion of being in direct contact with people and showing himself his beautiful city. He has worked for years in Lima as a guide in amazing Museums. He is fascinated by Peru's nature and culture

“I thought that it should be easier to talk about myself because I don't have any exceptional difference between others guys of my generation. But of course!!! That’s impossible, I’m a unique person, (such as everybody is), with many abilities, qualities and a lot of defects. Everyday I try to be kind, polite and equitable with everyone, because I hope the same to me. I am easy-going, talkative, outgoing, friendly and sociable but also, I’m lazy, bored and serious,” he said.

He spends some of his time for reading about history of Peru, sociology, especially genre theory, human rights, religion, policy, art, music and human sexuality.

PERU TOUR GAY is a project created by Omar Araya, who is interested in focusing his guiding on the particular interests and needs of the gay people, giving accurate information for any visitor to Peru.

No creo tener mucha diferencias entre jóvenes de mi generación, pero en verdad no lo es, pues todos somos personas únicas con defectos y muchas cualidades.
